Michelle April, R.P.

Michelle April integrates therapeutic modalities from a variety of approaches as it mirrors the seeker(s) of well-being and relational harmony. For Michelle, the work involves opening to truth/authenticity through optimal self-expression. It involves inner alignment of values and needs with outer circumstances. For her, safe (non-judgement/non-pressuring) and effective therapy can lead to the integration of body/mind/soul, inner/outer worlds, individual/community. This therapy promotes healthy connections, boundaries & a balanced exchange in relationships. Michelle provides open and safe spaces to explore person-centered themes toward clarity, self-compassion, insight and process orientation.

Michelle became a Registered Psychotherapist, Art Therapist and Breathwork facilitator from the combination of her reverence for life-long learning and her personal experience within a complex family system. She spent her life exploring self-expression which would yield surprising results unintentionally bringing healing long before she was aware of the expression/healing connection. She began practicing therapy in 2014 and opened a private practice in 2017 when she graduated from the Saint Paul University (SPU) MA in Counselling and Spirituality. Prior to and during these studies she received an advanced diploma in Art Therapy from Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. She continues professional development in Sense Writing (Madelyn Kent, NYC) and Somatic Breathing (variety of sources). She is a graduate of Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training (2012 Varkala, India) and David Elliot’s Breathwork levels 1-5 (2019 Sandia Park, NM).

Some of Michelle’s theoretical lenses include: family systems, attachment-based, EFT, Logotherapy, CBT (light), psychodynamic into somatic/experiential/present-focus. Her modalities include: Talk therapy, art therapy, writing-based and somatic breathwork. She sees individuals, couples, families and groups.

Brittany Berg-Keogan, R.P.

"Not until we are lost, do we begin to understand ourselves" - Henry David Thoreau

Reaching out to create a safe space for connection, perspective, insight, and meaningful change can feel daunting.  You have taken the first step in your commitment to your own wellbeing, growth, and happiness, and I am here to walk alongside you.  I believe that in the creation of a more stable, secure, and resilient sense of self or partnership, we are better able to manage and overcome our current struggles, whilst building the self-knowledge and strength necessary to overcome those that will undoubtedly present themselves in the future.

Due to the fluctuating, ever-unpredictable nature of the journey through our lives, we are at times confronted with situations, periods of transition, or life events that cause us to feel lost, or overwhelmed. We may come to find ourselves struggling with how to make sense of the discomfort we feel when we are faced with the ambiguity and uncertainty around us. It is in these times that we recognize that there is no manual for 'how to live', and that navigating through life's ups and downs, major decisions, and unexpected, challenging trajectories is not an instinct, but a learned skill.

As a clinician, I take an insight-based approach to therapy. When we are able to reach deeper insight into the mind we inhabit, we are better able to identify patterns regarding the ways in which we approach and manage interactions, relationships, emotions, and thoughts.  These patterns are rooted in our unique, collective experiences with the world, and you and I will work together to explore your story, and how you came to view yourself and the world around you in the way that you do.   As we learn to process and heal from difficult and confusing personal experiences, we are at the same time creating personalized coping tools rooted in self-knowledge and compassion, lending to a more resilient and empowered self.

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counselling and Spirituality, with dual specializations in Individual, as well as in Couple Therapy, from the Saint Paul University School of Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Spirituality.  I also hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree, where I double majored in both Psychology, as well as Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph.  I am a member of The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), and a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

My areas of practice include: anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, conflict resolution, change/transition/adapting, emotion regulation, grief and loss, separation and divorce transitions, motivation and organization, relationship diversity, stress management, and couple/marriage counselling.
